Lublin University of Technology, the Archdiocesan Museum of Religious Art in Lublin and the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) Museum have started cooperation on a project concerning the 3D scanning of liturgical vestments. “This is probably the first project of its kind in Poland”, reports the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL).
Historic artefacts from the Lublin collections including 3 chasubles from the KUL Museum and 3 pieces of liturgical vestments from the Archdiocesan Museum will be digitised.
The project will be carried out by employees associated with the ‘3D Lab’ of the Faculty of Computer Science at Lublin University of Technology under the direction of Professor Jerzy Montusiewicz.
Digitisation of liturgical vestments (chasubles, tunics and copes) will be carried out using several technologies: laser scanning, structured light scanning and photogrammetry.
The aim of the project is to conduct research into the usefulness and effectiveness of individual technologies in the process of digitally preserving objects such as liturgical vestments.
