The President of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), Prof. Jerzy Duszyński, was awarded an honorary doctorate by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for his commitment to helping Ukraine and Ukrainian scientists.

Doctor honoris causa is the highest scientific award in Ukraine. It is awarded by the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NANU) for significant contributions to the development of science and scientific international cooperation.

Prof. Anatoly Zagorodny, President of NANU, awarded this title to Prof. Jerzy Duszynski, President of PAN. Along with him, Prof Marcia McNutt, president of the American Academy of Sciences (NAS), received the honorary degree.

The title is an acknowledgement of the commitment to help Ukraine that flowed from Poland and the USA. Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and the NAS entered into an agreement that resulted, among other things, in research fellowships at PAN institutes for more than 250 Ukrainian researchers.
