The Institute of Astronomy at the University of Zielona Góra (UZ) has won a grant for the maintenance of scientific research apparatus (special research unit, SPUB) and a Regional Initiative of Excellence (RID) grant. The grants will enable the university to further contribute to global achievements in the field of astronomy.

The SPUB grant of more than PLN 600,000 will allow the university to cover the maintenance costs of its current apparatus, which is currently located at the so-called telescope farm in Chile.

The ‘Centres of Scientific and Technological Excellence at the University of Zielona Góra’ project under RID will be implemented in four disciplines: automation, electronics, electrical engineering and space technology; mechanical engineering; astronomy; and physical sciences. The above project has received funding of more than PLN 13 million. Part of these funds will be used to purchase another telescope, this time with a diameter of 70cm.
