Nicolaus Copernicus University researcher becomes director of the Joint Institute for Very Long Baseline Interferometry

Dr Agnieszka Słowikowska, Professor at the Nicolaus Copernicus University (UMK) in the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science, has won a competition for the prestigious post of Director of the Joint Institute for Very Long Baseline Interferometry, which operates within the ERIC (The European Research Infrastructure Consortium).

The institute is an international centre, well established among the 25 European research infrastructures. Its task is to coordinate the scientific cooperation of most European radio astronomy centres and several similar institutions from around the world (USA, China, South Africa, South Korea).

Prof. Slowikowska works at the Institute of Astronomy in the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Computer Science at the Nicolaus Copernicus University. For the last three years, she has been the institute’s deputy director for research infrastructure, and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the European VLBI Network Consortium, as well as the current chair of the board of the Opticon RadioNet Pilot project.
