Dr Sebastian Rutkowski from the Opole University of Technology (PO) has been awarded the prestigious prize of the International Society for Virtual Rehabilitation. The aim of the award is to recognise and appreciate the outstanding contribution of early career researchers whose research concerns virtual rehabilitation.

A researcher from the OP’s Department of Physiotherapy has been working extensively on the use of virtual reality in rehabilitation for seven years, particularly for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and post-COVID-19 patients, and has authored more than 50 publications, including systematic reviews, meta-analyses and original research articles.

‘When I started my work on the use of virtual reality, my idea was taken with a pinch of salt in the scientific world. In fact, there was a widespread belief that virtual reality was about games, not science. However, in the era of pandemics, it turned out to be a very good solution, my idea gained recognition’, says the laureate.
