Three architecture students from the Opole University of Technology have been awarded a distinction in the competition ‘Nigeria: Home after Crisis’, organised by the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund, the International Organisation for Migration, and the United Nations Agency for Migration.

The aim of the competition was to design a low-cost, incremental, modular and upgradable housing solution for violence-affected populations in rural northeastern Nigeria. By 2023, an estimated 3.5 million people there were homeless or living in precarious conditions.

Three architecture students from the Opole University of Technology created a project that would allow the construction of houses from materials readily available in Nigeria, namely wood, bricks and straw, which would offer the possibility of enlarging it as the family grows,

‘Our project will undoubtedly be an important entry in our CV, as it shows our flexibility and versatility in design’, says Dominik Łojas from the winning team.
