The Medical University of Silesia has signed an educational grant agreement with the Nutricia Foundation. The agreement concerns the teaching of gastric and enteral nutrition of a sick person, with the possibility of inserting a nasogastric tube and handling gastrostomy. Two phantoms will be helpful in education – “Stefan” imitating an adult and “Adaś” – a children’s phantom.
The university in Wrocław will receive phantoms with accessories to allow students to practice inserting probes, learning how to use percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, through the abdominal wall and percutaneous endoscopic jejunostomy, directly into the small intestine.
Phantoms are produced in the USA and Japan, and their production takes several months. They are used in patients after multi-organ injuries, with renal failure, burns, and neoplastic diseases. Medical nutrition is used to provide the patients with the right dose of nutrients when they cannot eat traditional food.
