Professor Hanna Obarska-Pempkowiak from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Gdańsk University of Technology was awarded the Green Laurel 2018. The award is granted by the Polish Chamber of Commerce “Sustainable Development”.
Professor Obarska-Pempkowiak was awarded for the development and implementation of innovative hydrophyte technology in municipal management. The technology is based on biological processes involving aquatic and water-loving plants (hydrophytes) and microorganisms.
The professor has developed several variants of the method, adapted to the treatment of sewage, sewage sludge and rainwater or leachate. All variants of the hydrophyte method are in line with the principles of circular economy.
The Polish Chamber of Commerce “Eco-development” awards the Green Laurel Award for achievements in the field of eco-development, for promoting or supporting environmental protection and for developing technologies in the field of environmental engineering, especially valuable for sustainable development.
