Researchers at the University of Life Sciences in Poznań (UPP) together with the Central Mining Institute, the Polish Mining Group, Technische Universitaet Bergakademie Freiberg and Universidad de Oviedo will carry out the project ‘Sustainable and intelligent mine waste management towards a green economy’. Money for the research was obtained from the Research Fund for Coal and Steel.

The researchers aim to develop solutions, technologies and guidelines to optimise waste management in a mining company. The results obtained for the case study analysed will form the basis for the development of technological solutions, guidelines for implementation and business models.

The role of UPP employees in the project will be to determine the potential of innovative soil substrates produced from mining and other wastes for plant production for various purposes, including the reclamation and revitalisation of areas degraded or devastated by human economic activity.
