The Gdansk University of Technology and the AI Lab from the Information Processing Centre – National Research Institute have developed Polish-language generative neural language models on the basis of a terabyte of text data exclusively in Polish.

Qra is the first of this scale and the best equivalent in Polish language modelling to the open tools of Meta or Mistral AI. Qra better understands content in Polish, better understands questions asked in this language and better creates coherent texts on its own.

A computing environment dedicated to the construction of artificial intelligence models was created at the Gdansk University of Technology at the STOS Competence Centre, one of the most modern IT centres in this part of Europe. It took the teams around six months to prepare it, create the tools and models and train them (based, among other things, on content from areas such as law, technology, social sciences, biomedicine, religion or sport) and test them.
