Researchers from the West Pomeranian University of Technology have developed a novel method for managing disposable protective masks. Based mainly on special thermal treatment of the material and its activation, the solution has been patented.

The process involves shredding, drying, carbonisation at temperatures between 400°C and 1000°C in the presence of a chemically inert gas, and activation using a chemical agent. The end product is activated carbon, ready for applications.

Activated carbon is a material used in various fields. Thanks to its microporous structure and large specific surface area, it is a very good tool in the fight against contaminants. Its main application is in water and air purification, as it effectively absorbs chemicals, heavy metals and pollutants.
