A renovated Membrane Separation Processes Laboratory has been opened at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. It will be used for water and wastewater treatment projects.

The refurbished laboratory, which is located at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering, has been equipped with specialised apparatus, i.e. equipment for direct osmosis (so-called forward osmosis) and ultrafiltration processes.

“The new laboratory will conduct research related to the application of pressure and dialytic membrane processes: micro-, ultra- and nanofiltration, electrodialysis, Donnan dialysis, diafiltration or direct osmosis”, says Dr Martyna Grzegorzek, from the Department of Environmental Engineering.

The results of the research can be used, for example, for water and wastewater treatment, the recovery of high-quality water and valuable components from waste streams, desalination or the removal of nuisance components from water.
