Dr Paweł Sikora, Prof. of the West Pomeranian University of Technology, has been awarded funding for a 2-year foreign research internship at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – UPC (Barcelona, Spain). During his stay, he will carry out the project “Reconstruction of building infrastructure through alkaline activation of concrete rubble”.

The scholarship holder, together with Prof Alberto de la Fuente Antequera, will develop a technology for the production of structural elements based on construction and demolition waste. The internship will develop prefabricated structural elements containing up to 100 per cent recyclates. The use of the alkaline activation method will eliminate or minimise the presence of cement in concrete mixtures, contributing to savings and reducing the carbon footprint of the materials.

The internship will be carried out within the framework of the Mieczysław Bekker programme financed by the National Academic Exchange Agency.
