Prof. Maria Soroko-Dubrovina from the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław (UPWr), researches and promotes Thermography – a non-invasive method of animal diagnostics. The result of her research interests is the book “Equine Thermography in Practice”, which was published by the British publishing house CABI.
Thermography is a diagnostic method that consists in non-invasive registration of the infrared radiation energy emitted from the surface of the body and transforming it into a temperature value.
“Any increase in temperature means inflammation and, importantly, thermography can detect it, even in the subclinical state of inflammation, when the animal shows no visible symptoms. A thermal imaging camera is a sensitive device that can detect temperature changes up to 0.1º C. Thanks to this, we are able to show the lesions occurring in the animal’s body before they fully develop – says prof. Soroko-Dubrovina.
