Researcher of the University of Opole receives Award of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences

Prof. Arkadiusz Nowak from the Institute of Biology at the University of Opole became the laureate of the scientific award of the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was appreciated for editing the monograph “Illustrated Flora of Tajikistan and adjacent areas” and the results of his program of research on vegetation and flora of Central Asia.  

Central Asian research is conducted by Prof. Nowak since 2006. Then, during the first expedition to Tajikistan, a partnership agreement was signed between the then Department of Biosystematics of the Opole University and the biology department of the University of Dushanbe. So far, the team of Prof. Nowak has published over 100 works indexed in the Web of Science on flora, vegetation, taxonomy and conservation biology of this region of the world.

The award is a recognition of scientific achievements and an appreciation of the efforts to build a brand of Polish science in the world. The laureate of the award is also the co-editor of the monograph, prof. Marcin Nobis from the Jagiellonian University.
