Dr Joanna Lisek from the University of Wrocław received Józef A. Gierowski and Chony Shmeruk Award for the best scientific publication in the field of Jewish history and culture in Poland. She was awarded for the monograph “Kol isze – the voice of women in Yiddish poetry (from the 16th century to 1939)”.

– The monograph is characterized by research ambition to build a broad – and at the same time rich in details – panoramic description, full of erudition, a great combination of literary workshop and research methodology on women’s literature – wrote Prof. Eugenia Prokop-Janiec and Prof. Magdalena Ruta.

The Józef A. Gierowski and Chony Shmeruk Award, whose amount is 20 thousand PLN, was established on the initiative of academic organizations related to Jewish studies at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, with the financial support of the Marcella and Maria Roth.
