Researchers from the University of Silesia in Katowice (UŚ), in collaboration with Maximapa, have designed a new system for taking fast and accurate measurements of the bottom of various bodies of water, which can be used in places inaccessible to standard equipment. The solution has been granted patent.
“For many years, our team has been involved in the creation of water body models that make it easier to manage this type of facility. Based on various measurements, we can assess whether they are safe, for example for tourism purposes. We are also able to estimate the level of risk associated with drought or flood phenomena in the context of reservoir operations”, says Dr Bartosz Łozowski of the Silesian Centre for Water at the University of Silesia, co-author of the utility model.
The patented system consists of two mother units. Between them there are approximately one-and-a-half-metre-long pontoon boats to which various measuring devices are connected, including sonars or GPS modules”.
