Researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology to develop modern technology in asphalt testing

22.12.2021

Researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) will use artificial neural networks (ANN) to predict the properties of materials used for road surfaces. The project is implemented with the Czech Technical University in Prague.

The most important aspect is the time-consuming tests and the need to perform such advanced tests on a large number of laboratory samples – says Dr Eng. Jan Król from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, project manager. These limitations can be partially reduced by determining the fatigue parameters of asphalt and assessing the basic properties of asphalt mixtures. However, this requires the development of advanced predictive models using the method of artificial neural networks – adds Prof. Król.

In the project, scientists will develop such models for predicting fatigue life. They are planning also to include easy-to-use and quick tools that will allow users to assess the behavior of mixtures without the need for advanced laboratory testing.
