Researchers from the Wrocław University of Technology are participating in the search for alternatives to synthetic pesticides in agriculture. The international programme involves researchers from almost all EU countries, as well as Albania, Turkey, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

The protection of agricultural crops in the European Union is currently heavily reliant on chemical pesticides, which – while effective in controlling a variety of weeds, pests and pathogens – can also have serious consequences for human health and the environment.

Researchers in the project ‘Towards zero Pesticide AGRIculture: European Network for sustainability’ project have set themselves three directions: microbial research; chemical ecology – manipulating pest odours; and new concepts for plant resistance. The project, funded by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology), is scheduled  for four years.
