Bialystok University of Technology (BUT) will receive over PLN 2.5 million as part of the Rural Development Program 2014-2020 for research on Rhodiola Rosea.
Rhodiola rosea L. is a medicinal plant known as the “golden root”. It is used in Tibetan medicine, in traditional Russian and Scandinavian medicine.
It contains active compounds that show a strong antidepressant and anti-stress effect. In addition, Rhodiola rosea has a positive effect on the heart muscle, has anti-cancer properties, it supports the immune system and increases the body’s efficiency.
In Poland, it is grown on the edge of the Białowieża Primeval Forest on the ecological farm of Mirosław and Alina Romaniuk. There, within the project, the BUT scientists will conduct research aimed at improving the quality parameters of Rhodiola Rosea, as well as creating a new product for the phytopharmaceutical industry – Rhodiola Rosea extract.
