Scientists of the Institute of Physical Sciences of the University of Rzeszów (UR) have developed an innovative project of a nanocomposite antibacterial coating on glass.
Innovation of the coating will be ensured by a unique phase composition and nanocrystalline structure, and its performance will be activated by visible light. The transparent coating will be durable, safe and will not wear out. The use of a coating on such commonly used displays will significantly contribute to the improvement of the quality of life on a global scale by reducing bacteria.
The idea to develop and produce an antibacterial coating was researched earlier and was aimed at protection against bacteria, especially those resistant to antibiotics. The pandemic has necessitated the development of coatings for application to everyday items, such as touch displays, where the most bacteria are present. Researches conducted out of the project suggest that the coatings also exhibit antiviral activity, which considerably increases the potential commercialization – said the project leader, Dr Andrzej Dziedzic.
