The Minister of Infrastructure recommended for use patterns and standards (WiS) for roads and bridges, tunnels and culverts. Many experts from Polish technical universities as well as research and design units were involved in their preparation. One of the teams was headed by Prof. Eng. Adam Wysokowski from the Building Institute of the University of Zielona Góra.

WiS was developed for designers, contractors, managers and construction supervision as a source of up-to-date scientific and technical knowledge. The guidelines contain recommended methods of meeting the requirements for building structures according to the Construction Law.

The need to develop new documents resulted from the new technical reality. The new documents will help to create optimized infrastructure facilities with the benefit of reducing their maintenance costs along with appropriate management.
