Scientist from the University of Zielona Góra wins the Sonatina 5 competition

17.08.2021

Dr Krzysztof Dudek from the Institute of Physics of the University of Zielona Góra won the Sonatina 5 competition organized by the National Science Center. Dr Dudek will implement the project “Programmable magneto-mechanical metamaterials controlled by a magnetic field”. His project funding is almost 400,000. PLN and includes the laureate’s internship in France.

The aim of the scientist is to design and construct new types of mechanical metamaterials with magnetic inserts, the behavior of which can be controlled by an external magnetic field. It is expected that the interaction of the sub-elements of the materials under study with the external magnetic field will allow the entire system to be able to exhibit a variety of remarkable mechanical properties.

The research will be experimental and theoretical and will use a number of modern research techniques, including 3D printing on a micro-scale. The results of the project can be used in devices used in medicine.
