The Polish-German Foundation for Science granted support for the project of Dr Elżbieta Opiłowska, the University of Wrocław, head of the Center for Regional Research and Border Areas at the Institute of Sociology.

Prof. Opiłowska in cooperation with Prof. Florian Weber from the Saarland University in Saarbrücken and two young researchers for 18 months will analyze the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on cross-border cooperation in Europe.

The Covid-19 pandemic since spring 2020 can be seen as a turning point in cooperation between border regions in the EU. The project aims to make a comparative analysis of the Polish-German and German-French border region in order to identify differences and similarities, taking into account different trajectories of their European development.

Apart from scientific publications, the result of the project will be a set of recommendations for local and regional entities of cross-border cooperation.
