Dr Jacek Smereka, the Medical University of Wrocław won the Blessed Gerard Tonque’s Award of the Minister of Health in the category of people and institutions supporting the State Medical Rescue. The award is given on Medical Rescue Day, whose patron is Bl. Gerard Tonque, founder of the Hospitaller Order.

The award was granted for the laureate’s lifetime work, including education of emergency medical students and medical students, organization of scientific conferences and postgraduate training for doctors and paramedics, development of textbooks and monographs in emergency medicine and medical rescue.

The award jury also appreciated the organizational activity and popularization of science, as well as over 20 years of cooperation of the winner with leading medical publishers in Poland, a number of publications in emergency medical services and emergency medicine, and many years of cooperation with the Polish Accreditation Committee.
