Professor Piotr Stepnowski from the University of Gdańsk became this year’s laureate of the Medal of Wiktor Kemula. The award was granted for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of analytical chemistry.
Professor Stepnowski is the head of the Department of Environmental Analysis at the Faculty of Chemistry and Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation at the University of Gdańsk. He is a recognized global authority in the field of research and environmental protection. In recent years, his research focuses on the detection and assessment of the effects of residues of pharmaceuticals in the natural environment.
Wiktor Kemula Medal is a distinction awarded by the Polish Chemical Society and the Committee of Analytical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences for outstanding achievements in the field of analytical chemistry. The patron of the award was a chemist considered to be the founder of the Polish school of polarography, the electrochemical analytical method. Professor Kemula was the inventor of the electrode with a hanging drop of mercury.
