Scientist of the University of Silesia receives a music award

Dr Karol Pyka of the Institute of Musical Arts of the University of Silesia has become a laureate of the first Warsaw Wind Ensemble Composition Contest 2020, organized by the Warsaw Wind Music Association and Polish Music Publishing House.

The participants’ task was to compose a piece for a concert brass band. The compositions were assessed by the jury in two international and Polish categories. The prizes for the winners include release and premiere of the presented work.

Dr Pyka took the third place in the Polish category. The composer presented the piece titled “Zawrat”, inspired by the landscape of the Polish High Tatras. The composition is a small overture for a wind orchestra, with a changeable mood, as illustrative music.

The laureate is a composer, arranger, conductor, session musician, educator, and Assistant Professor of the Institute of Musical Arts of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of Education of the University of Silesia.
