Dr Justyna Anders-Morawska and Dr Michał Sędkowski, carried out a study “the sounds of the city” as part of a research project at the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the University of Lodz (UŁ).
Currently, researchers are focusing on Łódź. They are also planning to start research in Tampere and Manchester soon.
The project of scientists from the University of Lodz includes not only the issues of preferences and sound tastes, but also the issues of health, environmental protection, spatial planning, cultural policy and protection of cultural heritage. Its aim is to answer the question of how residents, artists and city authorities could work together to improve the soundscape?
According to the Promotion Center of the University of Lodz, all people interested in the sound of the city – noise, silence and what is in between are invited to participate in the survey. In May, July and September, researchers are planning to conduct sound walks, during which it will be possible to hear the city.
