Scientists from the Krakow University of Technology developed a new drug production technology

07.07.2021

The ecological technology developed by scientists from the Krakow University of Technology (PK) will shorten the production time of antidepressants by 90%, and anticancer drugs by up to 50%. The solution has already been patented.

The technology developed by Polish scientists is based on the use of ultrasounds as a low-energy and effective alternative to the classic production methods currently used in the pharmaceutical industry. The team that developed a universal method based on ultrasound is headed by Dr Eng. Jolanta Jaśkowska from the Department of Organic Chemistry and Technology of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the Krakow University of Technology.

Pharmaceutical companies using this technology will be able to significantly reduce production costs, which will also translate into a lower final cost of the drug for patients. Scientists estimate that the prices of drugs produced with the developed method should drop by about 20-30 percent.
