Scientists from the University of Silesia developed a new pharmaceutical composition for the fight against heart disease

15.10.2021

Scientists from the University of Silesia have developed a physically stable form of a pharmaceutical composition based on simvastatin and ezetimibe, as well as a method of its preparation. Simvastatin and ezetimibe belong to the group of active substances used in drugs that reduce the concentration of the so-called bad cholesterol in the blood.

The best and most interesting form of both pharmaceuticals from a medical point of view is the so-called amorphous form. It allows to improve significantly the solubility of the drug and thus its bioavailability, which means that the same therapeutic effect is achieved as in the case of the crystalline form, but with a lower dose of the drug.

The composition developed by physicists from the University of Silesia is not only perfectly soluble in water, which translates into a very good absorption of the drug, but also maintains its stable physical form in the production process and subsequent storage under standard conditions. The solution has been patented.
