Scientists of the Gdańsk University of Technology discovered new superconductors

04.12.2020

Gdańsk University of Technology scientists have discovered two new inorganic compounds showing unconventional superconductivity. Each new superconductor is a step towards finding a material that can contribute to for greater environmental protection and lower electricity bills.

After nearly two years of interdisciplinary research, the Polish-American team of scientists discovered materials that exhibit superconductivity in a low-dimensional and non-centrosymmetric structure and at a relatively high critical temperature (5-7K) for superconductors of this type.

The results of the research, co-authored by scientists from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Princeton University and Rutgers University (USA), have been published in the Advanced Functional Materials journal. The article indicates the need for further research, including muon spectroscopy. The first scientists interested in continuing their research are applying for joining the project.
