An innovative fire extinguisher was designed at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics and Computer Science of the Kielce University of Technology (PŚ). The device can put out a fire with sound waves from a distance of nearly 2 meters.
The designer of the acoustic fire extinguisher is Dr Eng. Jacek Wilk-Jakubowski.
The scientist was inspired by tests carried out in the world and decided to develop a device that maintaining advantages of other solutions is not as destructive as traditionally used water or fire-fighting foams.
The advantages of technology include lower operating costs and easier firefighting. The device extinguishes the flame from a distance of nearly two meters. It can be operated remotely, which means that a person does not have to be close to the source of fire.
Dr Wilk-Jakubowski’s experiments show that the best are bass – waves with a frequency close to the lower limit of the sound that a human being can hear.
