Silesian University of Technology to launch an assisting robot for the benefit of medical staff and patients

12.06.2020

The Silesian University of Technology is launching an autonomous assistance robot for working in hospitals. Its presentation was accompanied by a seminar on the possibility of its use in hospital centers.

The “Autonomous Assist System at Infectious Hospitals” is an example of scientific innovation focused on helping medical professionals. The invention will relieve healthcare professionals of their daily tasks and will improve infection prevention in medical centers by becoming part of the epidemic reality and facilitating patient-nurse contact.

The concept of the robot was worked out as a result of cooperation of University of Technology researchers with employees of APA Group and KUKA, who are world leaders in the field of automation and industrial robotics. Currently, the Silesian University of Technology is conducting simulations and studies to select activities in which the system could support medics – also after the pandemic.
