Kamil Dydek, PhD student of the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) with his team are working on an innovative composite material, an innovative solution that can be used in aviation, wind energy, automotive, and even in medicine and sports articles.
The WUT scientists became interested in thermoplastic acrylic resin and the possibility of its modification. This resin is characterized by a lower viscosity and density than the standard epoxy or polyester resins. In addition, it remains a material not yet fully recognized, and this creates opportunities of innovative ideas.
The aim of the team’s work is to develop a composite material that will be lighter, more durable and conductive, and the possibility of producing it through the infusion process will allow for obtaining large-size elements of very high quality. An additional advantage will be the possibility of recycling it, which is currently a problem of other commonly used composite materials.
