Scientists of University of Life Sciences in Poznań to study the impact of caffeine on human health

03.01.2020

The researchers from the Institute of Human Nutrition and Dietetics of the Poznań University of Life Sciences are studying the effect of caffeine on human health. Scientists will examine gene responsible for the metabolism of this substance.

The safe dose of caffeine from all sources is 400mg per day, for pregnant women 200mg, but slow metabolizers should not consume more than 100mg of caffeine per day. Thanks to DNA analysis, scientists can determine who is at increased risk and shape their dietary recommendations accordingly.

The research will use an application that will allow assessing caffeine intake among the participants studied. The project is innovative in terms of both a comprehensive approach to assessing caffeine consumption among the Polish population of healthy adults as well as in terms of checking the sense of using modern, expensive technology in nutritional counseling.
