On 20-21 April 2023, the Department of Political Science and Journalism at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin is hosting the fourteenth national scientific conference in the series ‘Contemporary Media’ devoted to journalism in times of crises.

As the organisers emphasise, the crisis of relations and social trust, whose media manifestation is the phenomenon of information bubbles, affects the quality of social communication. The crisis is also experienced by the media and journalists, due to politicisation, professional instability, information overload, competition in the market of rival communication channels.

The aim of the conference is to capture the characteristics, the ways in which different types of journalism function in times of crises, and to formulate recommendations to support the formal, ethical and pragmatic aspects of crisis journalism. During the two-day event, 73 papers will be submitted, presenting research findings on the role of journalism in times of crises, discussing media images of crises of various types or devoted to the crisis of the journalistic profession. The panels will be attended by 102 researchers from all over Poland.
