Scientists of the Medical University of Silesia in cooperation with the TWAIN research group from the University of Silesia and researchers of the University of Physical Education in Katowice obtained a grant for the study of squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx at the Solaris synchrotron in Krakow.

Studies of such tissues on an accelerator, where photons are used as diagnostic particle are conducted for the first time. The synchrotron can be used to study both the composition of the organic substance and its structure – the light of the synchrotron can penetrate into the examined matter. It can reproduce virtually any detail of hidden layers or their selected fragments, without damaging the cells located outside.

Synchrotron radiation also stimulates the processes taking place in physical matter as it causes changes in the examined objects. Synchrotrons launch completely new research possibilities.
