The Silesian University of Technology has joined the Copernicus Academy network. This is a European Commission programme carried out in cooperation with Member States, the European Space Agency, the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, European Union agencies and the Mercator Océan research institute.

Copernicus Academy connects European universities, research institutions, business schools, private organisations and non-profit organisations. The aim of the network is to broker links between research and academic institutions and bodies and service providers, facilitate collaborative research, develop lectures, training sessions, internships, and educational and training materials.

The programme provides information services based on satellite data (Sentinel) and from ground stations transmitting data from sensors on land, at sea or in the air.
