The Silesian University of Technology has launched the ENTHRAL project (“Non-invasive iN-vivo assessmenT Human aRtery wALls”). The aim of the project is to develop a diagnostic procedure to assess local arterial stiffness, without invasive or stressful procedures. The inauguration of the project is scheduled for November 10th.

The idea of the project is to record the deformation of the arteries under the influence of pressure pulsations caused by the heart’s work. On this basis, the scientists are determining the parameters of the arteries, using advanced methods of modeling blood flow in flexible vessels, what allows to determine the stiffness of the arteries.

The project is carried out by a consortium composed of: the Silesian University of Technology, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim and the City Hospital No. 4 in Gliwice. The project with a budget of over PLN 6 million is financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, the research is planned for three years.
