“Simulation and optimisation of vehicle traffic within intersections on the example of Ozimska Street in Opole” – is the title of the master’s thesis defended with a very good grade by Maria Działa, a graduate in logistics at the Opole University of Technology (PO).

“The graduate dealt with a topic that concerns practically every resident of Opole, as Ozimska Street is the city’s main traffic route. The work demonstrates innovation, ingenuity and creativity. It presents a simulation and optimisation of sensitive intersections along Ozimska Street (one of the main streets in Opole)”, says the thesis supervisor, Dr Dariusz Masłowski, from the Department of Logistics at the PO.

The graduate’s research can be used by traffic managers to improve traffic flow. The student showed in her thesis that with her solutions, it is possible to increase the capacity on this street by an average of 10%, unfortunately at the expense of other streets. When it comes to optimisation, it is not uncommon to have to choose the lesser of two evils.
