Sebastian Machera, first-year student of medicine of the Medical University of Warsaw (MUW) and biotechnology of the Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), received the first prize of the Polish part of the European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS).
Sebastian Machera was awarded for the project in the field of chemistry entitled “An electrochemical immunosensor for the detection of human cardiac troponin T based on M13 bacteriophages selected using the phage display method”.
Medical University of Warsaw emphasized, that the developed sensor can be used for faster and more effective diagnosis of patients suffering from a heart attack.
The laureate believes, that the development of marker-free sensor technologies may contribute to a significant reduction in costs and simplification of medical procedures, and, as a result, improve the quality of medical services provided.
The project is carried out in cooperation with the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
