Students of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, with the help of experts from the University Children’s Hospital in Krakow and students from the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow are improving the models of orthodontic spoons and nasal stents used in the perioperative care of children with cleft lip and palate. The project will allow to create models of medical assortment adapted to the needs of young patients.

-We have a choice of several types of 3D printing technologies, ranging from the most popular ones, through printing methods from light-curing resins and polymer powders. We also consider standard techniques such as casting with the use of silicone molds – says Jakub Bryła, team leader, AGH student.

Students emphasize that 3D printing has a high potential in the production of equipment personalized to the needs of a specific patient. In addition to the obvious need of assistance, the main goal of the project is to explore the possibilities, advantages and disadvantages of individual additive manufacturing technologies in terms of the production of components for medical applications.
