Kinga Gawlik and Piotr Rajewski, students of the Architecture Department of the West Pomeranian University of Technology, received the BB Student Award in the Abu Dhabi Flamingo Visitor Center competition organized by the Bee Breeders platform.
The competition task was to design a new tourist center taking into account the unique landscape of the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in the United Arab Emirates. The reserve located 40 kilometers southeast of Abu Dhabi is famous for its large flamingo population.
The students designed a building that consists of functionally defined spaces, and its bonding element is an oasis in the form of gardens and a pond. The authors were looking for ecological system solutions, enabling effective ventilation of the building while maintaining the appropriate detail. Their design fits perfectly into the surroundings of the reserve and allows to observe exotic birds.
