Architecture students of Wrocław University of Science and Technology won the international Co-life 2.0 competition. The challenge was to design a co-living space for 50 seniors in Cape Town, South Africa. The organizer of the competition – the architectural UNI website – set the participants to create a place where older people will find not only comfort, but also a sense of community.
Julia Śliwka and Zuzanna Orłowska designed the building in the shape of the letter “O”. In the center of the complex there would be the main communication route leading to staircases leading to the first floor, where the authors planned three types of apartments for two, four and five people.
Each apartment would have a shared kitchen and hall, and a private area consisting of a living room, bathroom and bedroom. Each of these spaces would be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. Flats on the first floor would have a balcony or terrace.
