The Nobel laureate receives an honorary doctorate from the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań

The Senate of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, awarded the title of doctor honoris causa to Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn – Nobel laureate in chemistry, one of the most outstanding scientists. The Senate’s decision was made unanimously.

Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn is a friend of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. The university graduates prepared doctoral theses under his supervision, they did internships in Strasbourg, where he has been working. The scientist supported the efforts of the Poznań university for grants, being a consultant. He is also a laureate of the Medal of Merit for the Poznań university.

Prof. Lehn created an interpretive instrument called supramolecular chemistry. He provided it with appropriate concepts and definitions, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1987. The award was granted to Prof. Lehn, as well as Donald J. Cram and Charles J. Pedersen, for “creating and using molecules capable of specific interactions with high selectivity”.
