Toruń University to develop research on an innovative concept of protection against infections

10.12.2020

Researchers of the Interdisciplinary Center of New Technologies and the chemistry department of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń will develop research on an innovative concept of protection against bacterial and viral infections. This will be possible thanks to the funding obtained in the TANGO competition organized jointly by the National Center for Research and Development and the National Science Center.

The project “Supported by R&D works, an innovative concept in the field of protection against bacterial and viral infections based on filters with a biocidal function based on 3D structured graphene” is a continuation and extension of the currently implemented grant under the Opus program “Three-dimensional functionalisation of graphene by physical and chemical methods”.

Research works will include synthesis of filter materials obtained by exfoliation of commercial graphite, controlled insertion of heteroatoms into the porous carbon matrix, testing the biocidal abilities of the obtained materials and assessment of the market potential.
