Two graduates of Polish universities to join 17 astronauts of the European Space Agency

Sławosz Uznański, a graduate of the Łódź University of Technology, and Pablo Álvarez Fernández from Spain, who graduated from the Warsaw University of Technology, were among the astronauts selected by the European Space Agency (ESA).

They were recruited for the new astronauts from February 2021. It was then that ESA announced the recruitment for the first time since 2008. More than 22,000 people took part in the competition. After many stages of recruitment, 17 future astronauts were selected.

This group includes Sławosz Uznański, who graduated from the Technical University of Lodz in 2008 and currently works at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, where he is the operator of the Large Hadron Collider LHC, and Pablo Álvarez Fernández, who graduated in 2011 with a master’s degree from the Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering.
