The University of Gdansk (UG) has concluded an agreement with the European Solidarity Centre (ECS). The planned joint initiatives include research and cultural projects, summer and winter schools for foreign students and the promotion of Solidarity-related issues as subjects for bachelor’s and master’s theses.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Rector Professor Piotr Stepnowski and ECS Director Basil Kerski. The cooperation was programmed for five years with the possibility of extension. In the area of science, the partners declared the joint implementation of didactic and research projects referring to the idea of solidarity and democratic culture, the search for source materials and the improvement of staff qualifications.

There are also plans to cooperate in the field of publishing, and to run courses in Polish as a foreign language by UG language teachers. It is important for the ECS, which has been carrying out projects for the integration of new Gdansk residents for many years.
