The University of Silesia (UŚ) ranked 12th among all entities with the highest number of granted patents in 2021. In the list of universities, UŚ ranked 3rd, and among non-patent universities, it ranked unquestionably 1st. A report with data on industrial property protection was published by the Patent Office.

Every year, scientists of the Silesian university submit many innovative technical solutions for protection in the country and abroad. Researchers associated with the University of Silesia are the creators and co-creators of more than 600 objects of industrial property: inventions, utility models, industrial designs and trademarks. 

In 2020, UŚ obtained 27 patents, in 2019 there were 29, while in 2018 there were 35. For many years, the Silesian university has been among the top non-technical universities in Poland in terms of the number of patent applications and industrial property rights granted – mainly patents for inventions.
