In the latest Best Global Universities 2021 the University of Warsaw was rated the highest among Polish universities, on the 301st place. The Jagiellonian University in Kraków was in 329th place, and the Warsaw University of Technology in 618th.

The universities were ranked according to their performance based on widely accepted indicators of excellence. The assessed factors include: the total number of publications, the number of publications that belong to the 10% most cited ones worldwide, the total number of citations, the number of the most-cited works that belong to the 1% most-cited one, scientific conferences, international cooperation, global and regional reputation of the university.

The list of Polish universities in the first 1000 also included: AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków (679), Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (807), Medical University of Wrocław (902) and Wrocław University (922).
